Biography

Dr Foong Shaohui obtained his BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2005 where he continued his postgraduate studies. He received his MSc and PhD degrees in 2008 and 2010. During his doctoral studies at Georgia Tech, he was involved in the development of a patented intelligent high-speed automated live transfer system that consists of an Ethernet-based network of high resolution encoders, optical beam sensors, line array sensors and vision sensors. In an effort to enhance the accuracy and reliability of the transfer system, with a networked array of optical sensors, he introduced a control-oriented novel non-contact sensing method to simultaneously detect slippage/relative motion of natural objects on moving surfaces.

His expertise and experience with multiple diverse sensors led to an investigation on harnessing dynamic organized sensor networks that feature hybrid temporal network architectures in feedback control systems. His doctoral dissertation focuses on harnessing magnetic fields for positional sensing and control of electromechanical devices. He is a recipient of Who’s Who Award for best students in American Universities and Colleges in 2010 and member of ASME and IEEE.
